6/22/2015 - ECR's CEO to Lead Industry Through 2017 Utica, N.Y. – ECR International, Inc. is pleased to announce that President & CEO,Ron Passafaro has been re-elected as Chairman of the Hydronics Institute through 2017.
Re-election to the Chairmanship in consecutive terms is rare and likely due to the three significant issues which began during Passafaro’s first term: US DOE 2020 Minimum Efficiency regulations, US DOE Testing Procedures and Protocols and EPA ENERGY STAR Efficiency Tiers. Ron’s management of these complex challenges facing the industry thus far has moved the Institute’s members to call upon him to finish this important work during a second term.
Passafaro has been a member of the Hydronics Institute his entire career and has served on its Executive Board since 2007. The Institute is comprised of 69 domestic and international manufacturers of boilers and related components. The Hydronics Institute develops standards, conducts certification testing and works with Federal agencies, specifically the US Department of Energy, in regard to regulations governing efficiency and safety standards for the North American boiler industry.
Passafaro who looks forward to his new term said, “I am honored and humbled to be re-elected by my competitors and industry peers. Our industry continues to face increasing Federal and State regulation governing residential and commercial boiler efficiency standards. I am committed to working with both our government representatives and member companies to meet and exceed the North American market’s expectations.”
The Hydronics Institute has been representing the North American boiler industry since 1915 and is celebrating its’ Centennial this September in Absecon, NJ. It is a sub-section of the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) which represents 314 member companies with over 1 million US workers dedicated to excellence in product manufacturing to meet the heating, cooling and refrigeration needs of the world. Passafaro also has served on the AHRI board of directors since 2011.

3/27/2014 - Congressman Reed & ECR International Support Consumer Heating Choices Dunkirk, N.Y. – March 27, 2014 – Thomas W. Reed II, the U.S. Representative for New York's 23rd Congressional District and Ron Passafaro, Chairman of the Hydronics Institute, and President & CEO of ECR International recently met in Washington, DC. The two are allies in support of the boiler industry’s position on pending US Department of Energy minimum boiler efficiency standards to be determined this year and
implemented in 2020. Passafaro said “The challenge is in striking the right balance between efficiency and cost to consumers. As an industry, our member companies currently deliver boilers from an entry level
efficiency of 82% up to an ultra-efficient 95%, but efficiency is not one-size-fits-all. Consumers need choices that allow them and their professional contractor to select the best option for them, weighing such items as their specific heating application, venting options, system design temperature and of course price point.”
Representative Reed is fully engaged in the issue and will be assisting companies like ECR who employ hundreds of workers and have been manufacturing the Dunkirk Boiler and many other fine brands since 1928 in their factory at 85 Middle Road in Dunkirk, New York. Passafaro commented that “Congressman Reed gets it, he’s a business owner and understands the balance between prudent regulations that aide job and economic growth versus impractical, unsubstantiated standards. “To continue encouraging manufacturers to ‘make it here and sell it there,’ we need to protect local consumers and businesses from potentially damaging mandates out of Washington,” Reed said. “Partnering with ECR we’re able to bring the voice and expertise of a local manufacturer to the table down in Washington and fight for fair, feasible regulations, not Washington mandates that increase costs to both manufacturers and consumers.”
